Stokes Cleared to Bat After Injury Scare Against India

England captain Ben Stokes is set to resume batting on Day Two of the third Test against India after concerns arose regarding a groin injury on Thursday.

Stokes, who finished Day One undefeated with 39 runs alongside Joe Root (99*), appeared to be struggling with a groin issue during the final session at Lord’s. He required medical attention on the field and showed signs of discomfort while running between wickets, raising questions about his ability to continue in the Test.

Ollie Pope, speaking to the media after the day's play, expressed optimism that Stokes would recover. "Fingers crossed he can do something magic and come back strong," Pope said, emphasizing the need to manage Stokes' workload with two more crucial Tests in Manchester and London ahead.

India also faced injury concerns as Rishabh Pant hurt his finger while attempting to collect a delivery down the leg side from Jasprit Bumrah. Pant did not return to the field for the remainder of the day; Dhruv Jurel replaced him behind the stumps.

Though the BCCI confirmed Pant was receiving treatment and under medical supervision, there has been no official announcement regarding his availability for the remainder of the match.

At the close of play on Day One, England stood at 251 for 4 after 90 overs. Joe Root remained unbeaten with 99 runs from 191 balls, and Ben Stokes was not out with 39 runs from 102 deliveries. Their unbroken 79-run partnership for the fifth wicket aided England's recovery after India claimed two quick wickets post-tea.
