Yorkshire's plans for the remainder of the season have been disrupted as Ruturaj Gaikwad has pulled out of his overseas deal due to personal reasons.
While the specific reasons for his withdrawal remain undisclosed, Gaikwad was slated to join the team ahead of their upcoming match against Surrey, the reigning champions. The 28-year-old was expected to participate in the remaining Championship games and the One-Day Cup, marking his debut in county cricket. Currently, Yorkshire is positioned 8th in the Championship standings and is actively searching for a replacement.
Head coach Anthony McGrath expressed his disappointment, stating, "Unfortunately Gaikwad's not coming now for personal reasons. We're not going to have him for Scarborough or for the rest of the season. So that's disappointing."
McGrath added, "I can't tell you anything about the reasons why, but we hope that everything's ok. We've literally just found out. We're working behind the scenes on what we can do. But it's only two or three days away, so I'm not sure what we can do at the moment. We're working to try and get a possible replacement, but time pressure is the issue."
Gaikwad has been out of action for over three months, since suffering an elbow injury during an IPL game, which forced him to withdraw from the tournament. Although he recovered and was selected for the India A squad for the four-day matches in England, he did not play.
