ZIMBABWE T20I TRI-SERIES, 2025
Corbin Bosch is carving out his own identity, distinguishing himself from his brother Eathan Bosch and his father Tertius Bosch, both with cricketing backgrounds. In a world where family legacies can sometimes overshadow individual achievements, Corbin Bosch is stepping into his own spotlight.
Bosch's journey began impressively, taking a wicket with his first ball in a Test match and scoring an unbeaten 81 against Pakistan in Centurion in December.
Since then, he has continued to build on that foundation. Last month in Bulawayo, he scored an unbeaten 100 and took 5/74 in the first Test against Zimbabwe, followed by claiming 5/65 in the second match. More recently, he took 2/16 in a T20I against Zimbabwe in Harare on Sunday.
Bosch's economy rate stands out among South African seam bowlers in T20Is. Of the 64 men who have bowled seam for South Africa in T20Is, only 15 have achieved a lower economy rate in an innings where they bowled all four overs than Bosch's 4.00.
These performances are timely, potentially positioning him for selection in the upcoming T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka and India in February and March next year. Despite not being considered for last year's tournament in the US and the Caribbean, Bosch is now firmly in the selectorial conversation.
Recent changes in the selection process have seen a revert to a panel of selectors, a decision deemed "baffling" and "out-of-touch". However, the appointment of Patrick Moroney, a respected figure in cricket, as convenor offers a glimmer of hope. Moroney is scheduled to begin his role on August 1.
While Shukri Conrad initially elevated Bosch to the international stage with sole selector power, the head coach will no longer have complete control over squad selection.
Bosch remains focused on his performance, stating: "As cricketers, our goal is to play every time we get an opportunity. It's important to put your best foot forward."
Conrad's strategy as all-format coach involves identifying the best combinations for the team, particularly with the T20 World Cup in mind.
"Shuks is trying to find the best combinations. The goal is the T20 World Cup coming up, and he's trying to fine-tune things for that," Bosch said.
Bosch added, "This is his first white-ball series as head coach, so I think he's also trying to find his feet. But he's meticulously planning how he wants to go about it and how he plans to set up his team. He's doing a good job so far and everyone is buying into his plans."
