Deepti Sharma, the Indian all-rounder, has decided to pull out of The Hundred 2025 to manage her workload. She will be replaced in the London Spirit squad by Australian player Charli Knott.
Deepti, who played a crucial role in the Spirit's title victory in the 2024 edition, is currently in England for India's ongoing white-ball series. Her decision to withdraw comes in light of a busy international schedule leading up to the ODI World Cup in September-November, which will be hosted in India. Before the World Cup, India is scheduled to play a three-match preparatory series against Australia in early September.
The London Spirit franchise acknowledged Deepti's contribution in a statement released on Tuesday, July 8th. "Deepti will always hold a special place in Spirit history. She produced the team's most iconic moment by hitting the ball over long-on for six, securing our first The Hundred title last summer. She performed exceptionally with both bat and ball throughout the tournament and was the highest-ranked Spirit player in the MVP standings. We hope to welcome her back to Lord's in future years."
Charli Knott, the 22-year-old Australian replacement, brings considerable experience, having played 59 matches for Brisbane Heat in the Women's Big Bash League. She also represented the Southern Brave franchise in The Hundred last year. Knott joins fellow Australians Grace Harris and Georgia Redmayne on the Spirit roster.
Expressing her enthusiasm, Knott stated, "I can't wait to take the field with the London Spirit this year. Having experienced the excitement The Hundred has to offer during my short stint last year, I am very much looking forward to playing again this year. It will be a great opportunity to play with and against the best cricketers in the world at the Home of Cricket."
